Big Damn Shindig

The Big Damn Shindig 2010 is here! 5/15/2010

Big Damn Shindig update:
Raised $370 for the Atlanta Community Food Bank and $92 for Equality Now.

From the ACFB:

...I wanted to confirm that I received your donation check for $370 today. Thanks again for supporting the ACFB with your efforts! A thank you letter/receipt will be generated from our accounting dept. and sent to you in the coming weeks. But, I always like to give our partners an impact statement specific to their efforts.

*For every $1.00 donated, the Atlanta Community Food Bank is able to provide $7.91 worth of groceries for those in need within our community. Thus, with the $370.00 in donations received from your 5/15/10 event- “Big Damn Shindig,” we’re able to create approximately $2926 worth of groceries, which will help support our over 700 partner agencies in 38 counties, feeding people in need. Please share our gratitude with your fellow Atlanta Browncoats… Your efforts are truly appreciated! Thanks again. Cheers, Michael DeCoursey

Bring a friend, and come dressed in your favorite costume for a night of food, fun, and revelry. Costumes are optional, and not limited to the Whedonverse---the more creative, the better. Food and drinks will be available from the Tavern throughout the shindig; Manuel's offers a fantastic menu and full bar at affordable prices.

Profits from the shindig are donated to Equality Now thru CSTS and the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

There's several ways you can help us pull this off.

You can also put notices on your MySpace, LiveJournal, Facebook or blog sites!

There are two ways to fight a battle like ours. One is to whisper in the ear of the masses, try subtlely and gradually to change the gender expectations and mythic structures of our culture. That's me. The other is to step up and confront the thousands of atrocities that are taking place around the world on an immediate, one-by-one basis. That's a great deal harder, and that's Equality Now. It's not about politics; it's about basic human decency.

- Joss Whedon

All of us at Equality Now continue to be amazed by and grateful for the Browncoats' and Serenity fans' generous and committed support for our work. Their energy and enthusiasm is inspiring and these screenings are coming at a critical time when we are especially in need of funds! We thank each and every one of them and Happy Birthday to Joss!"

- Amanda Sullivan, Equality Now
